Finalist at Caritas International Competition 2018

I am very pleased to announce that my composition Snow for SATB choir has been selected to participate in the finals of Caritas Chamber Choir’s International Emerging Composer Competition 2018. The competition is held in Canterbury (Kent, United Kingdom) and it is organised by Caritas Chamber Choir. Every year there is a new theme and a new jury member. Last year’s theme was The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer and the judge was the American composer David Conte. My piece Chauntecleer was selected and very well performed by Caritas conducted by Benedict Preece.

This year’s the theme is The Garden of England and Ragnar Bohlin, Director of the San Francisco Symphonic Chorus, will be the judge. Composers were asked to write an original composition with any text that have a connection to Kent. I chose the poem Snow by Walter de la Mare as living in Estonia this year I have seen quite a lot of it 😀
Text in its simplicity was very inspiring and I tried to reflect this in the vocal style along with evocative and rich harmonies.

Really looking forward attending the performance in July!
